Summer in Valle Aurina

Experience the power of nature

Variety and challenge, relaxation and nature as the perfect backdrop: In summer, Ahrntal shows off its most attractive side. This is not only due to the 84 three-thousand-metre peaks, which invite you to enjoy leisurely hikes and summit ascents high above the forest line. It is also due to the people who have always farmed the alpine pastures and have given us all a special cultural landscape. The lush green of the meadows, the resinous aroma of the woods, a stop at a managed hut: moments like these make a holiday in Ahrntal a special experience.

Our hotel in the centre of Steinhaus is the ideal starting point for this. If you are interested, you will find plenty of hiking tours right on your doorstep. Klausberg is only a stone’s throw away. The ski and hiking area has become a real attraction for families, hikers and mountain bikers in summer. Speaking of biking: whether you’re with or without a set of wheels: Ahrntal is a real insider tip.

But that’s not all, by far. When it comes to culture, the area has a lot to offer. In Prettau’s show mine with climate tunnels, visitors can take a deep breath and explore the world of the miners who were still mining ore up until 1971. The history of the mine comes to life in the museum in the Kornkasten (grain store) in Steinhaus right next to our hotel. Those who drive to the end of the valley to Heilig Geist will experience moments of silence and contemplation in the small chapel. Minerals are the focus of the museum in St. Johann, the largest exhibition of nativity scenes of all sizes is offered by the museum of the same name in Luttach. In Bruneck, you can also find the two Messner museums, MMMRipa and MMMCorones. And if you feel like letting your soul wander in the natural bathing pond with its architecturally appealing indoor swimming pool and sauna, the Cascade in Sand in Taufers is the place to be. If only holidays were always so rich in variety…
